Wu Jing, first blind flutist made her debut with Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra & Tactsense technology helped her to “see” the conductor with her right foot

Ny teknik gör det möjligt för blind flöjtist att ”se” dirigenten

Wu Jing, first blind flutist made her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic New Blind flöjtist dirigeras med nålar under fotenTech Helps with Blind Chinese Musician’s PerformanceOrchestra on May 23rd, 2016! She did it with the help of Tactsense technology. “For the first time to experience music with conductor is beyond amazing,” said Jing after the concert. There are no words to describe the feeling of being able to “see” in music, to read conductor’s gesture under the foot, to feel the tempo, beats, time signature, and rhythm through the help of technology.

Stockholm City Cultural Department and the Swedish National Music Council (Musikverket) recently awarded the innovation project Tactsense, grants for the development of a unique technical platform for visually impaired musicians. Project members including Ric Wasserman, Wu Jing, Ellen Sundh, Runo Andersson, Jan Bengtson and Andreas Alin. The project and premiere concert are videodocumented and become part of a documentary film which follows blind professional flautist Wu Jing as she makes her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The film will air on Swedish National Television in the fall of 2016, and will broadcast in France, China, Canada and Denmark..

Concert with Anders Forsslund on Stockholm archipelago Svartsö

A big thank to the event organizer on Svartsö. I was surprised to have well-prepared Chinese food for dinner with hand-made dumplings and Kung Pao chicken. It was an amazing evening concert with the theme of China. We shared with audience our concert tour to China, the people we met, the great Chinese food we had on the trip. Peter, Anders and I played music from Sweden and China, to best create harmony and culture exchange. Anders sang Yanhua sanyue in Chinese was certainly the concert’s highlight. After the concert, we continued our celebration with people from Svartsö. The day after, we went around to feel the nature of Svartsö and had wonderful fish soup. Hope that we will bring more music back to Svartsö.

Wu Jing’s flute mentor Jan Bengtson has something to say

Wu Jing cannot reach her music dream without Jan Bengtson. Jan Bengtson is the principal flutist of Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. He has helped Wu Jing tremendously a lot. He discovers new way to adapt and work with a flutist that does not see. Along the way, Jan has been Wu Jing’s mentor, guide and inspiration.
