Wu Jing, first blind flutist made her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic New Blind flöjtist dirigeras med nålar under fotenTech Helps with Blind Chinese Musician’s PerformanceOrchestra on May 23rd, 2016! She did it with the help of Tactsense technology. “For the first time to experience music with conductor is beyond amazing,” said Jing after the concert. There are no words to describe the feeling of being able to “see” in music, to read conductor’s gesture under the foot, to feel the tempo, beats, time signature, and rhythm through the help of technology.

 

Stockholm City Cultural Department and the Swedish National Music Council (Musikverket) recently awarded the innovation project Tactsense, grants for the development of a unique technical platform for visually impaired musicians. Project members including Ric Wasserman, Wu Jing, Ellen Sundh, Runo Andersson, Jan Bengtson and Andreas Alin. The project and premiere concert are videodocumented and become part of a documentary film which follows blind professional flautist Wu Jing as she makes her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. The film will air on Swedish National Television in the fall of 2016, and will broadcast in France, China, Canada and Denmark..
